Fully automatic cutting to length, stripping, and more – the Metzner AM 2000 Series is growing: With the new saw module, multi-blade module, and the AM 2900, an entire machine family is now available that ranges from the compact entry-level solution to the high-performance machine for complex cable types.
Getting Started with Automated Cable Preparation
Many operations are familiar with the situation: the manual cutting and stripping process works – but it is slow, error-prone, and does not scale. As soon as volumes increase or tolerance requirements tighten, hand strippers and bench-top devices reach their limits.
The Metzner AM 2000 Series is designed precisely for this transition: fully automatic compact-class cutting and stripping machines that deliver high precision and easy operation – without the complexity of a large-scale machine. All models operate fully automatically and come standard with a spring-loaded belt feed that automatically compensates for material variations and ensures consistently precise cuts – regardless of whether the cable comes fresh from the drum or exhibits slight ovality.
AM 2800: The Proven Foundation of the Series
The AM 2800 is the classic entry-level solution in the series – compact, reliable, and proven many times over in practice.
- Wire cross-section: 0.14 mm² to 6 mm²
- Cable diameter: up to 6 mm
- Processing: Braided cables and wires, single-core and multi-core
- Standard functions: Cutting to length, single-sided and double-sided stripping, partial stripping, mid-span jacket removal
- Interface: RS-232 as standard – PC-based processing and printer connection possible
- Operation: All cutting and stripping parameters programmable via the machine control panel
- Material compensation: Spring-loaded belt feed automatically compensates for material variations
What sets the AM 2800 apart from many competitors is its operating philosophy: all processing steps are programmed via a few settings on the control panel. Predefined functions provide easy access to a wide range of processing options without requiring in-depth machine knowledge. In practice, this means: shorter training time, fewer operator errors, and faster changeover between different wire types.
New in the Range: The AM 2900 Series
With the AM 2900, Metzner expands the series to a new performance level. The centrepiece of the new model range is the Metzner multi-blade module integrated as standard – a combination of V-blades and radius blades that enables cutting to length, stripping, and slitting in a single operation.
The result is precise, crush-free cuts and clean cable ends – even with longer cable lengths and more demanding cross-sections. The AM 2900 processes cables with cross-sections up to 35 mm² and lengths up to 999 m, with a cable diameter of up to 15 mm and a maximum feed speed of 180 m/min.

AM 2950 – For Particularly Complex Cable Types
The AM 2950 complements the portfolio with a rotary module included as standard. This enables the processing of particularly demanding cable constructions such as coaxial or multi-layer cables – with high precision, cleanly, and without manual rework. What previously required multiple process steps and machines is now combined into a single seamless automatic process.
Automatic Inner Conductor Processing: One Process Step Eliminated
One of the most significant advantages of the multi-blade module becomes evident with multi-core cables: in combination with the module, the AM 2900 Series machines can fully automatically strip cables with up to six inner conductors.
The workflow is entirely automated: after removing the outer jacket, spring-loaded clamping jaws position the inner conductors precisely. The stripping blade then performs the partial or full strip – accurately, reproducibly, and without manual intervention. What previously had to be organised as separate operations now runs as a single seamless, automatic process.
For operations that regularly process multi-core cables, this means: less handling, fewer error sources, and a significantly faster total throughput time per batch.
Which Model Is Right for Which Application?
The AM 2000 Series offers the right model for different requirements:
- AM 2800 – Ideal for getting started with automation. Cable preparation up to 6 mm², medium production runs, varying wire types with manageable changeover time.
- AM 2900 – For operations with higher requirements regarding cross-section (up to 35 mm²), speed (up to 180 m/min), and process integration. Ideal when cutting to length, stripping, and slitting are required in a single step.
- AM 2950 – The choice for complex cable constructions such as coaxial or multi-layer cables that require a rotary cutting unit.
For applications with even larger cross-sections or specific special processes, further model ranges from the Metzner portfolio are available – CETEC Systems will advise you on the right selection.
PC Connection and Printer Integration
The standard RS-232 interface enables integration into PC-based production environments. Programs can be created, saved, and transferred to the machine on a computer. Additionally, a printer can be connected to label wires directly after processing – an important step towards a complete process chain without media discontinuity.
